The UK aerospace industry is facing a record order backlog exceeding £200 billion, following a highly successful run at major international trade shows in Singapore and Berlin.

Companies like Airbus UK and Rolls-Royce have secured multi-year commitments for fuel-efficient aircraft and next-generation engines, reflecting the global airline industry's drive toward decarbonization. The backlog is expected to sustain production levels for at least the next eight years.

"The 'Made in Britain' tag still carries immense weight in global aviation," said the head of the Aerospace Industries Association. "Our challenge now is scaling up the supply chain to meet this unprecedented demand."

Industry leaders have called on the government to provide more support for R&D in sustainable aviation fuels and hydrogen propulsion to ensure the UK maintains its competitive edge. Skills shortages remain a concern, with the sector needing thousands of new engineers by the end of the decade.
