Today, the FBI and MI5 unveiled the ‘Digital Fortress’, a bilateral AI cyber-defense hub designed to pre-empt and neutralise threats before they materialise. This is not mere infrastructure; it is a cognitive immune system for the digital body politic.

The facility, staffed by 200 analysts and a cluster of quantum-hybrid neural networks, will share real-time threat intelligence across the Atlantic. Director-General of MI5, Ken McCallum, described it as ‘the first line of defence in a world where code can kill as surely as bullets’. The centre will focus on critical national infrastructure: power grids, financial systems, and communication networks.

But beneath the rhetoric of protection lies a more profound question: Who watches the watchers? Civil liberties groups have already raised alarms about unprecedented surveillance capabilities. The AI systems, trained on petabytes of global cyber-activity, can predict attacks with 97% accuracy, according to leaked internal documents.
